Initial Movement Experimentation

To continue from the previous experimentations, I wanted to experience the gestural movements to get myself back into the mindset of the theme. I experimented with similar marks from before to re-experiments the mark makings through different medias e.g. charcoal, ink, paint etc (Figure 1 and 2) (Figure 3).

I wanted to see what the outcome would look like if I were to play with the markings digitally. I played around with them on photoshop, cutting them and distorting the drawings (figure 4, 5, 6).

Trying to look into bringing in the element of body in the movement, I outlined different gestures of myself and overlapped each line to create the sense of movement in a still image. I composed the movement on a diagonal to see if the lines would create the sense of flowing from one side of the page to the other (figure 7).

I wanted to see what kinds of geometrical shapes were created instead of just lines and overlapped them to see what kind of effect the image would have, adding a layer of the ink gestural to see would if the marks would almost link between each movement together. I wanted to experiment with adding another material later to the image to see if it was able to create more dimension to the movement. I decided to go with red tissue paper to show that the emotions behind a dance are very delicate. Red expresses the emotion passion, and the shapes underneath are the foundation of dance (showing particular moves within dance that have been learnt), but the passion on top makes the movement unique. The idea of the bleach was to show the foundation through this emotion which is fragile and delicate (Figure 11).
